How it Works
You'll notice how smoothly and effortlessly VoiceOver works. A lot of thought went into creating an iPod nano this not only talks, but says the right things. It all begins together with iTunes and its seamless integration together with iPod nano. First, iTunes reads your song information, then uses the VoiceOver Kit to generate the announcements for the songs, artists, and playlists. Just sync your iPod nano to your computer and it really speaks to you.

It Speaks Multiple Languages
Your music library has songs from all over the world--a love song from France, a bolero from Spain, a pop tune from Japan. Luckily, VoiceOver speaks fluent song.

iTunes selects the language and excellent voice for your song titles and artist names. It looks at song data, like the title, artist, and album information, then applies intelligent algorithms to select the right language. For example, iTunes distinguishes the song "Ya Viene el Sol by Ozomatli as a Spanish song, so your iPod nano will automatically talk this song title and artist in Spanish. If you prefer to listen to this information spoken in another language, you can modify the designated VoiceOver language for this song in iTunes.

Hit the Ground Running--Or Walking

Step it up together with the New Pedometer
You get your iPod nano together with you everywhere. Why not use it to stay fit? iPod nano now doubles as a Pedometer. It uses the built-in accelerometer to keep track of your steps and help you meet your fitness goals. You can make a daily step goal or set it to Always On so it counts all the steps you get, all the time. Which makes iPod nano the perfect exercise associate.

Rock and Run
Your shoes and your iPod nano team up to maximize your run. See the minutes tick by. Watch the miles unfold. Listen to real-time voice feedback. All to your favorite music, counting your chosen Power Song--this one song this always gets you throughout the home stretch.

Rock the Gym
Get Nike + iPod to the gym and minute by minute, mile by mile, you're motivated by extra than music. Connect your iPod nano to a Nike + iPod compatible cardio machine. Record your pace, time, and distance as you work out. Together with iPod nano, each trip to the gym becomes a new challenge.

Customer Reviews
Customer rating is 4 of 5  It's an iPod... what else is there to say?   2010-09-07
By Rosa (Boston, MA)
I've been hooked on iPods since my first "iPod photo". This is my first smaller-sized iPod, though--I've always gone for the bigger types before, but wanted something that I could strap to my arm.

There are tons of reviews already, so I'll just add what I thought was the most 'different' about these compared to ones I've used in the past:
1. There's a motion sensor (I forgot what they are called) that changes the display based on whether you have the screen straight up or tilted to the side, etc. While this is a cool new feature, I've found it to actually be more of an annoyance than something 'useful' and, if given the choice, would probably disable it. First of all, if you don't lock the iPod, and are, for example, running, the shaking motion will actually activate shuffle (sometimes) and your song will change suddenly. Also, sometimes the sensor will lag, and your song title won't show up right away (if it is tilted to the side, your albums covers come up).
2. Apple, at some point, changed their connections so if you have an iHome (or other such speaker device), it might not be able to 'charge' this generation of iPods. I was sorely disappointed by this, as it meant an extra $70+ cost to replace my speaker, even though it was working perfectly.

Overall, I'm happy with my purchase, and the quality of the iPod itself. (The pink is so pretty!!!). Marking it down for the minor annoyances, although I guess they don't actually affect how good the product is (overall). Hopefully the next model will be more to my liking?
Customer rating is 4 of 5  not the newest model   2010-09-06

If I new a newer model was due out this week, I would not have bought this one. The new model is smaller and they have done away with the click wheel, I hate the click wheel! There is nothing wrong or bad about this model other than its not the newest model out there. Its my own fault for not researching better befor my purchase. For the same price you can buy the new nano model which has all the same features, is smaller, and with a touch screen (no more click wheel). No reason to buy this OLDER model unless they drop the price on it significantly.

I love the video camera and microphone, comes in handy for unexpected need for video or voice files. This ipod nano holds all my music in such a slim design.I have nothing but praise for this ipod, I use it at the gym or when power walking. Radio also comes in handy!
Customer rating is 3 of 5  Great Product, but with the potential for a serious bug...   2010-09-06
By C. Krubeck
First of all, let me say that this isn't my first ipod. I've updated this from an old video ipod that unfortunately took a nasty fall and broke.

The ipod itself is great, it's got a lot of nice user interface features. It's easy to browse music, find artists, etc. Audio quality and quality of construction are all great. The old annoyance of the headphone jack being next to the usb still means you can't charge the ipod and listen to it with certain headphones but these are all fairly minor issues.

The video functionality is pretty much useless, but may be good for dumb laughs. I personally only use my ipod for music so I couldn't care less. However, since the 4g nanos now cost more than the new generation you might as well get this one.

NOW THE BAD STUFF:

The main issue with this ipod that you may or may not care about is there's a well known bug regarding syncing from the ipod -> itunes. For those of us who organize our playlists and music by playcount or rating, there is a possibility that when you've spent all day listening to your music NONE of the information will transfer back to itunes. Again, if you're someone who organizes music this way, it is infuriating. Apple has taken an official stance of denying a problem exists as well so don't expect a bug fix anytime soon or if they do they probably wont tell anyone.

I've just replaced one ipod that had this issue and I'm currently experiencing no problems with the new one, but it is a common problem so buyer beware. If this problem does not persist, I will update this review in 2 weeks (that's when apple's return policy runs out) and say that everything is great and change this to a four star review. Until then, Apple has crippled a piece of functionality between this generation and the one before it and have done nothing to fix it.
Customer rating is 5 of 5  Great Ipod with so many new features!   2010-09-05
By Noreen A. Morris (ny)
This is a keeper and for the price--you get so much. Love how simple taking great shots or videos is with this. The external speakers and cover flow makes sharing and watching a breeze. The FM radio gets tons of stations and the little extras are so easy to locate and actually use. Calandar, contacts, alarm, stop watch and even a pedometer!
You may even catch me playing a game on this every now and then. My main use was for cardio and audio books--but I find I am taking more videos with this than my JVC Everio HD camcorder.
Quite a bit of fun for the money!!
